Joy Augustine
Straddling with documentaries, commercials, ad-campaigns, television programming and feature films for over 30 years - Producer, Writer and Director, Joy Augustine who hails from the picturesque state of Goa in India, is a filmmaker in Mumbai's Bollywood Industry best known for his Hindi feature films Goonj (1989) and Tere Mere Sapne (1996).
Joy traces his roots to theatre before moving on as an assistant to the renowned documentary and wildlife filmmaker duo Naresh & Rajesh Bedi (winner of the Green Oscars). Subsequently, he moved on to be the first assistant director to Jalal Agha. He was also the associate director on several ad-campaigns that included the Indian Railways ad campaign of 1985, which featured India's iconic ace sprinter P.T. Usha. Over the years, Joy led and directed several commercials and ad-campaigns for premier agencies like McCann Erickson, Creative Eye, Akva Marketing to name a few - for leading Indian conglomerates Mahindra & Mahindra, Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. and others.
Collaborating with Sahara Media Communications Ltd, Joy headed a team of innovators, to design and develop path breaking 3D cinematographic components for television broadcast and programming; and is the co-inventor of the technology (patent pending). Joy is notably credited for identifying talented actors like Arshad Warsi, Chandrachur Singh, Priya Gill, Simran, Vaibhavi Merchant , Aarti Agarwal, Karan Nath, Howard Rosemeyer amongst others.
Joy has earned two nominations:
*Best Writer for Goonj (1990) at the Indian Filmfare Awards
*Best Debutant Director for Tere Mere Sapne(1996) at the Screen Awards
